The Complete E-Commerce Book:Design, Build & Maintain a Successful Web-based Business
Published in Paperback by CMP Books (October, 2000)
Authors: Janice Reynolds and Roya Mofazali
Average review score:

recommend this book as an addition to your reference library
This book provides an introduction to the various technical and business aspects of e-commerce for the business executive. The author delves into some of the more technical aspects, such as how a company can connect its databases to off-the-shelf e-commerce software and describes what a server does and give an overview of the features of the top-selling server software. She also summarizes the possibilities of electronic payments and how they work, as well as the kinds of security that are needed in various parts of an e-commerce network and why. The final chapters in the book provide an in-depth look at marketing, order processing and fulfillment and customer service. Readers without a great deal of technical expertise should have no trouble understanding it as the author focuses on the details in a way that delivers concise, cohesive, and coherent ideas to the layperson. Although you might find a better book, this book does have an extensive glossary and good directory of Web resources. All in all, I highly recommend making this book as an addition to your reference library!

Best all-around guide for e-commerce
This book is the best general, comprehensive guide to e-commerce (or "e-business" if you will) that I've yet run across. The author has gone through great pains to provide information useful to both "the little guy" and large companies interested in applying e-commerce techniques to their business models. She also has dug up an assortment of technologies and services from around the world (not just the U.S.), and its vaguely international flavor probably explains why this book is popular in places such as Egypt....

Buy this Book !
If you have any thoughts of starting your own Web-based Business, this is the book for you. It will guide you from start to finish with an amazing amount of valuable information on every page. Whether you consider yourself an expert or an absolute beginner, you will learn all there is to know about E-Commerce. The text, graphics and layout are clear and concise. There is no doubt this book will become a trusted companion for many a Web-site entrepreneur.

eLeadership : Proven Techniques for Creating an Environment of Speed and Flexibility in the Digital Economy
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (February, 2001)
Author: Susan Annunzio
Average review score:

Inspiration and guidance for those of us in the trenches!
One of the great paradoxes of the technology-driven economy is that people have become more critical to business success than ever. None of the New Economy rhetoric about technology-driven business models and disruptive technology alters the fact that it is people in the end who will make the difference between the winners and losers in the marketplace. And inspiring and leading the kind of people who will make the most difference is becoming more complicated and challenging than ever, particularly in the big old companies that still rule the roost.

Susan Annunzio understands these challenges. She has a perceptive ability to identify the behavior that presents the most formidible challenges, empathize with the players, and pinpoint the leadership skills and talents that can transform large companies into rejuvenated market leaders.

eLeadership is written in an enthusiastic, breezy style; it makes one want to rush back out into the corporation and make believe that even the most lumbering and complex organization can think and act like a dot.com for just long enough to pull off the improbable! Dot.corp leaders will not only draw inspiration from this book; they will also take comfort from knowing that they have shared the pain with so many of the managers Ms. Annunzio interviewed for her study.

A must read for both managers and Gen X and Y employees
E-Leadership is a must read for both managers and employees in today's workforce. The book is very easy to read and is the perfect companion for a car ride or flight on your next business trip (I read it on a a day trip to NYC from Chicago). The author's insights and examples are very easy to relate to and you will walk away with at least 5 -10 things to think about when you go to work the next day. Annunzio is especially insightful around the working relationship between boomers and Gen X/Yers. She provides tangible ways for managers to better relate to and motivate workers. E-Leadership should be in the bookcase for every middle and upper manager in today's companies!

Don't Be Misled by the "e"
This book is bigger than the "e" we've grown tired of..."e everything." This is a book about how to position your company for today and whatever the next wave of change might be, whether it is away from or back to the .com revolution. Annunizio is more than a writer or consultant, she is a zealot. It is clear in her writing that she has lived through the fear and thrill of making fundamental organizational changes, as an insider putting her job at risk and a consultant putting her fees at risk. What she offers us in this book is practical, common-sense, doable and, yet, scarey. The last quality is what makes it worth doing. If it were not scarey, it would be just another "change of the month." However, don't just pick one or two ideas from this book and then expect to transform your company. This is a comprehensive change program...one of the few we've ever been offerred in such detail and with such an easy to read and easy to follow format. I bet one of the other reviewers is right. If you bring Annunzio to your company, she will shake it at its' roots, not with the funny quips of Tom Peters, but with any one of the mind-bending questions that she poses in her chapters. I'm sending this book to all my burned-out colleagues.

The Essential Guide to Wireless Communications Applications, From Cellular Systems to WAP and M-Commerce
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall PTR (12 December, 2000)
Author: Andy Dornan
Average review score:

An excellent introduction into wireless world
Mr. Dornan explains in a very easy -to-understand way all the wireless technologies. This is an excellent introduction book and, at the same time, a complete reference guide.

Good overview of the wireless world
As someone new to wireless technology, I found this book very helpful. It explains what all the buzzwords like 3G and m-commerce actually MEAN, and left me understanding a lot mroe about the industry than before. I particularly liked the chapter on how 3G works, because it had a lot of detailed info without being overwhelming. There's actually quite a lot of technical details throughout the book, yet it's still readable. You can read it almost from cover to cover as an introduction to the topic, then keep it as a reference later.

Clear and Useful Introduction to Wireless
This book is a clear and useful, very useful, introduction to the wireless space. I found that this book introduced me to technical terms, standards, and business concepts I had sometimes heard about before, but the author lays out the details in a very clear and detailed manner. For example, this book helped me to understand 3G much better. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get a much better overview of the wireless space.

Entrepreneurship.Com
Published in Paperback by Dearborn Trade Publishing (November, 2000)
Author: Tim Burns
Average review score:

Back to Basics
As I write this, the Nasdaq has fallen below 2200. This would be a horrible time to come out with one of those arrogant, jargon-filled, air-headed books celebrating Internet mania.

Fortunately, Tim Burns instead takes a back-to-basics approach to Internet entrepreneurship. He correctly identifies the genuine characteristics of the New Economy, e.g., "The new organizational wealth no longer centers around physical capital but around intellectual capital." (p. 22) But he advocates traditional business discipline rather than throwing the rulebook out the window.

In theory, a book about starting an Internet business might have to cover economic theory, business strategy, accounting, law, and finance, as well as describe the technical features and business implications of the Internet. In practice, an author has to pick and choose.

Burns puts emphasis on

--analysis of business opportunities (particularly in chapter 2, where he contrasts ten fallacies of Internet entrepreneurship with he calls the "reality-based Internet business model.")

--advice about creating a business plan

--principles of accounting (Burns' background is particularly strong here)

On the other hand, the discussions of Internet marketing tactics tend to be few and far between. Someone seeking advice on designing and promoting a web site or on email marketing would have to look elsewhere.

I think that this book best serves someone who never went to business school and who wants to fill in some knowledge gaps before launching a new enterprise. It's a lot less expensive than going back for your MBA.

Certainly a Must Have
Finally, someone who really knows what it's like to raise investment capital for these dot coms has written a book that tells it like it is. This book is extremely easy to read and understand. Although I would consider this book a quick read (meaning it was written with the reader in mind), it is chock full of great information. Having spent my past 15 years assisting startup and emerging growth companies with their capital raising efforts as a profession, I've literally read all the books on raising investment capital to keep up-to-date on areas that perhaps I had overlooked. Quite frankly, with very, very few exceptions, the books are boring and offer no real valuable insight. I found Tim's book to be extremely valuable and as a matter of course all of our clients will receive a copy. Although the content of Entrepreneurship.Com is focused on dotcoms I would recommend this book for anyone who is trying to raise investment capital or attract a strategic partner, regardless of the industry. The blueprint that Tim has set forth is solid for any business model or industry and his "E-Plan" approach is excellent for the dotcom business models. Great book and this is one customer who highly recommends it.

Insightful !
What an insightful book on starting a business in the New Economy. I found the book easy to read and full of interesting examples. Most of all, I liked the logical flow of the information presented. If you want to avoid some of the mistakes of the dot com failures, then I would recommend that you buy this book.

Rules of The Trade: Indispensable Insights for Online Profits
Published in Digital by McGraw-Hill ()
Authors: David S. Nassar and Bill Lupien
Average review score:

Simply The Best Book I Have Read On Trading
If you want a no nonsense, tell it as it is book, this is it. I love this authors writing style. This book is filled with experience and depth that comes through in an easy to read fashion. Finally a book that speaks directly to the issue of market psychology, and what it takes to be a trader.

The lessons taught focus at the core of what emotions and demons a trader can face. So many books are riddled with useless facts and information that makes them hard to finish. This book is a "page turner". Like a good movie, I didn't want it to end. The book and its author are direct, funny, and interesting.

I really loved this book. I am reading it again and giving it as many stars as I can!

Great Book
This is a great book. I make my living trading stocks and options, and this is the best book I have read recently on the subject of day trading.

To the point, and tells it as it is. Not a cheesy sales promotion like so many other books out there. This author has class and style, and it shows in his writing and content. I recommend this book highly.

Great Book.
What a great book. This book was an adventure to read! A real page turner, which is something you can not say about many financial books. I have traded for years and feel this book synthesizes the real essence of trading better than any book I have ever read and I read plenty of books. David has a real feel for the markets which comes through in his writing. Better than his first book, although I would suggest both since this book reflects a more confident writing style that speaks to the experienced trader much more.

As far as other books I think are notable, I would read the classic market wizards book, reminiscences of a stock operator, trading for a living, and the daytrader. There are several others I like but this should get you started. All in all, this is my favorite so far. Awesome job Nassar!

E-Tailing

E-Tailing is a Must-Read for All Businesses
"E-Tailing" is a great book for any business owner who wants to have a better understanding of electronic commerce. I have had a web site for three years, but now have a new understanding of the elements that create a stronger online presence. Bernadette Tiernan has successfully managed to address e-tailing in an easy-to-understand and comprehensive manner. I have specialized in business planning for many years and would advise every business teacher and student, and business owner to familiarize themselves with and utilize the concepts presented in "E-Tailing". Kudos for doing a great job of addressing a difficult subject.

Grow your E-tailing business with this book
Bernadette Tiernan has done a masterful job of organizing the very complicated and fluid subject of E-Tailing. The landscape of e-commerce shifts on an hourly basis but the fundamental elements of success identified and explained in Ms. Tiernan's book will not change. This book is a must read for any E-Tailing Entrepreneur. Even if you already have a website for you business I recommend reading this book if you want grow you business via the web.

The book for businesses with an eye on e-trade
Among other books I have purchased on E-trade, I found E-tailing to be the best no-nonsense guide in taking you from basics to the full e-trade business set up. I strongly recommend this book for managers who are considering to put their businesses on line and want to get a foothold on the subject. The book informs well in what steps to take and expected areas that will need to be tackled along the way.

Planning for PKI: Best Practices Guide for Deploying Public Key Infrastructure
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (13 March, 2001)
Authors: Russ Housley and Tim Polk
Average review score:

Serious Help for Those Interested in PKI
Finally! A resource that offers real assistance for the enterprise IT manager. Whether simply contemplating a PKI system and needing to understand the fundamentals or actually planning for a role-out, the authors have provided insight that comes only with having spent many, many years designing and developing information security systems for the most demanding of consumers. This is not marketing or sales hype and does not promote a particular vendor, rather it offers valuable insight and subtle considerations in making critical tradeoffs and decisions about PKI details that must be understood if you intend to actually employ such a system. Building a successful PKI is an on going process, it is not a turn key event. Once this is understood, the reader can learn much about PKI components and the subtle differences between them and how they can operate together, or not. Any senior IT leader should have this book on their shelf as a key reference document. Highly recommended. Ed Hart.

Real PKI for Real People
Housley and Polk's "Planning for PKI" is an excellent reference for a variety of readers.

Novices to PKI will gain an understanding of the many issues that exist in deploying and employing a PKI. The book makes no assumption about the reader's technical knowledge level, providing a brief introduction to the underlying cryptography, policy issues, and motivation for the use of PKI.

Planners and system architects will learn about the crucial points that make the difference between a successful deployment of a PKI and one that only yields many lessons learned. In fact, "Planning for PKI" gives several concrete examples of existing PKI deployments and lists the lessons learned from those deployments. This is a real advantage for future deployments, allowing much time to be saved. The lessons learned alone are worth more than the price of the book.

Software developers will also find this book useful. In a single volume, it gathers the authors extensive knowledge of the PKI standards development in the IETF and elsewhere. Many subtle points about the PKIX RFCs are liberally sprinkled throughout the book. These nuggets provide insight into the intent of some of the esoteric topics in the RFCs and can assist the developer in producing an interoperable product or deployment.

The language used in the book is plain and direct. Where useful, simple diagrams and ASN.1 fragments are given. The ASN.1 fragments are well-annotated so that an understanding of ASN.1 is not required to comprehend what is being presented. (And for those interested in ASN.1, there is a brief primer in the back of the book.)

The real value of the book is the succinct (relative to the actual PKI standards and body of literature) gathering of the current state-of-the art in PKI into one tome. It covers the gamut from PKI history to future developments. Appropriate and accessible to a wide range of readers, "Planning for PKI" gets my hearty endorsement.

A credit to the authors
Planning for PKI is without doubt the Class of all books related to PKI. The authors have done a marvelous job of creating a book that walks the fine line of being interesting to senior management as well as Engineers.

For the CIO, it provides wonderful examples of how PKI can benefit your organization.

For engineers and techies that it provides the nuts and bolts of Public Key Infrastructure, (CP and CPS development, public key encryption ,Architecture, CRLs, Cross Certification, Applications, etc.)

It is truely a credit to the authors, and I would recommend it to anyone who has even the smallest bit of interest in PKI.

M Commerce: Technologies, Services, and Business Models
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (19 April, 2002)
Author: Norman Sadeh
Average review score:

A complete reference book for m-Commerce
I picked up M-Commerce as I was curious where the mobile computing market was going. From where I was standing, I see a lot of hype and was not particularly impressed with the early WAP based services. Although relatively brief, Dr. Sadeh have managed to provide a good overall description of the mobile computing market, past, present and future as well as presented simply and clearly the technologies involved, the problems that need to be overcome and the successful business models that have been employed. As a guide to mobile commerce and it's potential for profitable business growth, I would recommend it highly to executives and other interested parties who are either thinking of jumping on the bandwagon or figuring out how increase competitiveness by leveraging on it.

Superb Introduction to Mobile Commerce
I don't write book recommendations too often but this truly is a must-read for those who want to understand mobile commerce.

The author provides a splendid overview of this fast moving area, covering both technology and business issues. This is the perfect book for managers like myself who've been hearing bits and pieces about m-commerce but lack a more comprehensive overview of what's out there today, what works and what doesn't and where this entire area is likely headed in the years to come.

The book is modular and well written with easy to understand sections on the underlying technologies (e.g. WAP, mobile security, 3G, LBS, etc.) and insightful discussions of key business issues (e.g. the changing role of mobile operators, profit sharing business models, the role of personalization and context awareness, mobile payments, etc.) The author also does a great job at pointing key usability and privacy issues. I strongly recommend this book.

Timely,practical,reliable
This book lives up to expectations. It presents the exciting and fast-moving "m-commerce revolution" comprehensively and with insight. Dr Sadeh covers the state of the art in m-commerce technology and business in clear, accessible prose, suitable for managers and technicians alike. I enjoyed this book a lot, and highly recommend it to everyone who wants to understand the future of mobile business.

Internet World Guide to One-To-One Web Marketing (Internet World Series)
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (March, 1998)
Authors: Cliff Allen, Deborah Kania, and Beth Yaeckel
Average review score:

Sound practical advice in Internet Marketing Strategies.
This book provides sound practical advice concerning the development and implementation of effective Internet marketing strategies. Building on the pioneering work of McKenna; and Peppers and Rogers, the core hypothesis of the book is that effective use of the web - and other Internet based communications tools (e.g. e-mail; newsgroups etc) - allows even very small firms to build customer loyalty and relationships through one-to-one marketing, at low cost. The emphasis on relationship building presents a refreshing counter-balance to the 'build it and they will come' mass marketing approach adopted by many Internet marketing authors. The web is not a mass marketing tool. First, and foremost, it is a communications tool.

The book comprises twelve main chapters. Following two general introductory chapters presenting broad overviews of one-to-one web marketing and interactivity, the next nine chapters focus on specific aspects of one-to-one relationship building on the Net including, one-to-one e-mail; web site personalisation; one-to-one push strategies; web based communities; web conferencing; web advertising and promotion one-to-one; web tracking; marketing systems; and privacy issues. The final chapter considers the future of one-to-one web marketing.

Excellent introduction how to establish web strategy
This book is an excellent introduction in the establishment AND in the execution of relationship marketing based strategies. It is readable, easy to understand and to follow and it gives excellent insghts how successful companies have done it. This book is one of the very feww that go straight ahead to the core of relationship marketing and explain a model how to implement it. It also examines the technology that is applied to build up a relationship marketing. Although it is already two years old, and this period of time is in the internet era incredible much, it gives excellent introduction into the concepts of one-to-one marketing reality. Excellent Book!

The Best Internet Marketing Book There is.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!!

This book is by far and away the best book on Internet marketing. It is a must read for any marketing professional or for the novice. I have thrown away all of the other books about the internet that I used to own. This book is clearly written with lots of information and ideas about how to effectively take your One-to-One marketing strategy to the Web. It has saved me so much time and kept me on track.

I am Marketing Analyst For a large catalog company and use this book daily. I can not possibly say enough good things.

This book is worth its weight in Gold!!!

Thank you, once again and I can't wait for your next book.

Excellent, well-rounded "how-to" book
Greg did a find job of writing in the rapidly changing sphere of how to start a business online. He's found excellent advice from seasoned experts, and gives a tremendous amount of resources.

The CD that comes with the book is packed with useful programs for small biz owners, & he gives URLS for each program, plus well-written descriptions.

Starting an Online Business for Dummies offers great tools for a solid foundation. If someone is seriously considering an online biz, they'll do well to buy this book.

I found this book to be an excellent source of information.
I instruct E-Commerce classes at a local junior college, and I will recommend my students buy this book. After reading several books on starting an online business, I found this one pretty much covered the major points that I discuss in my classes. Since starting up my own web design business, I find I use this book for ideas for my own company. It's a book you can constantly reference. Accompanied by a Web page design book like "Web Pages that Suck" (It really is good!), most of the bases are covered. Also, the cd had a lot of useful information on small business links and sample software.

Starting An Online Business For Dummies
This book is truly incredible. I cannot even absorb all of the information in it! This is a MUST HAVE for ANYONE even thinking about starting an on line business. This is such an easy read and you can go on line and check out all the different web sites he has listed in the book. There is more information in this book than I ever thought possible. It is EXTREMELY helpful and written very well. It is the kind of book that you keep on your desk to constantly look up things. This is the best investment I have made in a long time. = )
